Don't Let Your Documents Expire For Marriage In Cuba

Updated: Aug 13, 2019

Imagine it: After everything you've done, you're not able to get married in Cuba. This is every bride and groom's nightmare: you have gone to the trouble of having your documents translated, stamped, certified, and finally legalized by the Cuban Consulate. You have planned your wedding in Cuba down to the last detail. The rings and the dress are purchased. Your family and friends have all flown down to the Island. You arrive at the Consultoria Juridica only to be told that you can't get married because your documents are expired.

Whenever you are dealing with immigration documents, always keep in mind the expiration dates and deadlines. Once your documents have been legalized by the Cuban Embassy, your affidavit of single status is valid for SIX MONTHS from the date it was signed.

If you don't get married within six months of the date you signed your affidavit, you will have to get a new affidavit of single status and have it legalized all over again.

If you are sponsoring your Cuban spouse for PR in Canada, your forms are valid for 90 DAYS from the date they are signed. Police clearances are valid for SIX MONTHS from the date they are issued. Make sure you have all of the documents you need to get married in Cuba, and don't lose track of the deadlines for the validity of your documents.
